Cutting Edge Changes in Concepts of the Universe & Life

NLET supports learners and those who serve them, with student centric, technology enhanced approaches. We help educators better understand the learners they serve and deploy targeted, on demand, and holistic support to improve educational outcomes.

Spotlight Stem Frontiers Outreach

Cosmic Frontiers

Cosmic Frontiers, www.CosmicFrontiers.org, is a STEM outreach collaboration between two STEM-oriented nonprofits: the New Mexico Consortium (NMC), which partners with the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), and the research and development nonprofit, National Laboratory for Education Transformation (http://www.NLET.org).

NMC and NLET have come together to accelerate excitement for large-scale STEM activities involving the origin and evolution of the universe (cosmology, astrophysics), the imaging and sensing of activities in space (astronomy), quantum science and astrobiology.

The first Cosmic Frontiers event, following the successful Oppenheimer Festival at the SALA Los Alamos Event Center, is the Stephen Hawking & The Universe event, April 27-29, 2024 at SALA.

MitochondriaWorld

NLET has chosen to start a major effort in biological and medical outreach surrounding the role of mitochondria, the tiny and numerous organelles in every cell of humans and all other animals. This fascinating area of biology is getting more attention now as mitochondria are rapidly emerging as the focus of global research in health, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, immunity, diabetes, obesity, genetic dysfunction, and aging. As the subject becomes more popular, NLET, through MitoWorld, will help serve as an information and services hub on the subject globally.

www.MitoWorld.org. MitoWorld reports across the range of primary mitochondrial diseases, of more general and widespread mitochondrial dysfunctions and conditions, and on the rising number of age-related diseases with mitochondrial issues. The site includes directories, news, information and services for researchers, patients and doctors, promotes active sharing and collaboration in the research communities, and provides information from and for the therapeutics and diagnostics sectors.
